Description : This precision agriculture technology was transferred successfully by signing the Technology Licensing agreement with M/s., Tech Visit IT Pvt. Ltd, Mumbai which was facilitated by Agrinnovate India Limited (AgIn), New Delhi. In his licensing remarks, Dr. Praveen Malik, CEO, AgIn informed that e-crop has a high potential market in the smart farming sector and can help the farmer to reap higher profits, than conventional farming. Dr G. Byju, Director, ICAR-CTCRI has exchanged the Technology License Agreement with officials Shri. Bharat Patni, Director, M/s., Tech Visit IT Pvt. Ltd. While exchanging the TLA, Dr G. Byju told that licensing e-crop – an climate-focused and high-value technology on World Environment Day marks a significant milestone in the history of ICAR-CTCRI. Dr VS Santhosh Mithra, Principal Scientist and inventor of the technology explained the key features of this “farmer-friendly” technology. The licensing process was managed by Institute Technology Management Unit of ICAR-CTCRI through M/S Agrinnovate India Private Limited, New Delhi. About 120 scientists and staff of ICAR-CTCRI and students participate in the function. A famed precision agriculture technology “e-crop” developed by ICAR Central Tuber Crops Research Institute; Thiruvananthapuram has moved into commercial phase today. This IoT technology helps the farmers in managing scare natural resources in a judicial way, through accurate measurement of soil moisture, temperature and nutrient content along with weather parameters such as wind speed, temperature and rainfall. The crop growth models built into this system enables the farmers to get timely advice on irrigating the crop, applying fertilizers based on crop requirements, identification of fertilizer pest and disease incidence along with other field-based advisories. By maximizing the efficiency of agricultural inputs along with reducing wastage, this device provides an “eco-friendly alternative” for regenerative agriculture. Besides its “eco-friendly” nature, this technology also commands significant share in $886.21 million worth market in India.
