Quality Planting Material Production in Tuber Crops by Minisett Techniques

Background:
Planting materials constitute about 40% of the total cost of cultivating cassava, elephant foot yam and yams. It becomes a burden for the farmers when cassava is grown as raw material for the industrial processing. Cassava setts and yam tubers are used for propagation and have poor shelf life. As majority of the farmers are using their own planting materials, they are forced to buy setts/ yam tubers during planting season at exorbitant prices

Technology Details:
Minisett technique is developed for rapid multiplication of quality planting materials in tuber crops. It is an effective and viable technology which is quite farmer friendly and farmer oriented. Optimum reduced size of planting material in tuber crops for their rapid multiplication is called as ‘Minisetts’ which also enhances the multiplication ratio to a large extent. Reduced the cost of planting materials by 30-40% and highly economical for seed producer-farmers.
