Background:
Ridge planting in some crops is the necessity. Ridge planting is preferred over flatbed planting due to enhanced water use efficiency and proper drainage in case of excess rainfall. Crop specific planters are not popular due to less working hour annually. With minimum intervention, if the planter can be used for multi-crop, it has wider acceptability. Making ridges and planting seeds in one pass saves operation time and cost in case of the ridger planter. Technology Details:
The developed planter makes ridges and precisely plants seeds in a single pass. Inclined plate with L-shape cells was used for metering of different types of bold seeds. The average field capacity of the machine is 0.19ha.h-1 with field efficiency of more than 65%. The saving in time and cost of operation was found to be 67 percent and 38 percent respectively.
