Vivek Maize Hybrid 57

Background:
Maize is the third most grown cereal crop within India after paddy and wheat. India contributes around 2% of the global production with a (26 million MT in 2016-17). In India, hybrid maize is grown in about 65-70 percent acreages and most of it accounts for feed and industrial-grade maize. A wide gap exists between the world average and Indian in terms of productivity, which can be bridged by the development and cultivation of high yielding maize hybrids. VL Maize Hybrid 57, with its high yield and earliness, can contribute significantly to bridging this gap in the hill regions of the country. Technology Details:
VL Maize Hybrid 57 (VMH 57), an early maturing (95-100 days) and high yielding (60-65 q/ha) hybrid. VLMH 57 is released for Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand (Hills) and NE Hill Region (Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura). Owing to its short duration, this hybrid can fit into various maize-based cropping systems prevalent in the country. The parental lines are high yielding and nick well and VLMH 57, therefore, is a suitable hybrid for commercialization.
