Botanical insecticide based on Dalbergia sisso leaves for control of aphids in seed spice crops.
Background:
The insect pests are one of main causes for crop damage at field and storage level, which account for up to 100 percent damage, if control measures were not applied at desirable time. Among insect pests, sucking pests, defoliators, soil insects are main cause for concern for most of the crops. Synthetic insecticide which offer good control of insect pest’s problem have its own limitation such as presence of insecticide residue in the produce after harvest of crops, human health hazards, environmental contamination, resistance development by some insect pests and diseases, adverse effect on non- target organism etc. The demand for alternative to broad spectrum chemical pesticide has never been greater looking the concern associated with synthetic molecule for pest management:
Therefore, the product botanical insecticide based on Dalbergia sisso leaves which offer good control of pests at lower doses and are free from residue and other problems. It has been evaluated in seed spice crops like coriander, cumin and fenugreek and showed good insecticidal values. The botanical insecticide can also be incorporated in organic cultivation of agricultural crops
Technology details:
The product provides an oil-based formulation containing stable dispersion of non-polar solvent extract of Shisham (Dalbergia sisso) leaf extract. These stable oil dispersion compositions of present invention comprises Shisham leaf extract in vegetable oil base, combination of low and high HLB value surfactants as dispersing agent and Silicone based defoamers. The composition offers various advantages like ease in handling, volumetric measurement and dose preparation; enhanced bio-efficacy and rain-fastness. As the composition is based on botanical based active and inert ingredients, it is safe towards non-target organisms and do not pose risk of environmental contamination and phytotoxicity to crops. The composition can be safely used in agriculture and organic farming for insect control. The bio-efficacy testing results indicate that this stable oil-based dispersion has very good bio-efficacy and significantly reduced aphids population in seed spices.
