The Argulus infestation in fish ponds is very rampant across the country. Due to the parasitic diseases fish culture faces the biggest problem for its sustainability and the commercial expansion. The Argulosis disease causes almost 25 % loss to farmers in form of diseases associated mortalities and reduced growth rate. The only the immediate remedy used by the farmers, is the unregulated dumping of the insecticide and different drugs / chemical in the culture water which may give temporary solution from the problem. Additionally, these practices of pesticide use lead to series of other problems such as, accumulation chemicals, environmental hazards, impact on non-targets organisms, toxicity to cultured fishes, and reduction of growth rate in fish and finally the higher level of use trigger upgraded residue in fish tissue with potential health hazards to human. ICAR –CIFE, have a tested the feed mix with the pharmaceutical and nutraceuticals component which include the regulated and monitored dose of the pharmaceutics for treatment of fishes along with growth restoration and better productive performance. The present feed mix, to control and treat the Argulus and other ectoparasite of fishes has been published by Indian patent office and is titled as “IVERMECTIN BASED MEDICATED FEED MIX FOR TREATMENT OF FISH PARASITES AND GROWTH RESTORATION IN FISH”, patent in order to grant with Application no. 1340/MUM/2012” is a blend of 11 nutraceutical and pharmaceutical components. The nutraceutical components of product ensure immune-boosting and wound healing along with restoration of feed intake and growth in fish. The invention can be adopted as the best method for the treatment of the ecto-parasites as well as the endo-parasites without environment degradation. The product has been found to eradicate the infestation and gave better efficiency compared to the commercially available product from the market.
