CSH-42 (Kharif Sorghum hybrid)
Background
Kharif sorghum is cultivated in Northern Karnataka, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra
Pradesh and Gujarat. Many high yielding varieties and hybrids are being grown in Kharif season.
Most of the varieties are late maturing and poor in fodder yield and quality. Early maturing dual
purpose hybrids with better grain and fodder yield and quality is need for Kharif season with
tolerance to grain mold to achieve sustainable sorghum production. The early maturing hybrids
can be cultivated in paddy fallow and summer season under protective irrigation with better
yield potential.
Technology Details:
The early maturing Kharif sorghum hybrid CSH-42 has been developed by heterosis breeding
method of from the cross between 2219A x SVD-1278. This hybrid is dual purpose with higher
grain yield potential and moderate fodder yield with moderate tolerance to grain mold. This
hybrid can be cultivated in paddy fallows and summer season under irrigation because of its
early maturity.:
