CSV-37 (Kharif Sorghum variety)
Background:
Kharif sorghum is cultivated in Northern Karnataka, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra
Pradesh and Gujarat. Many high yielding varieties and hybrids are being grown in Kharif season.
Most of the varieties are late maturing and produce smaller grains (100 grain weight 2.8 to 3.0
g). Early maturing bold grain varieties with tolerance to grain mold are important to achieve
sustainable sorghum production.:
Technology Details:
The early maturing Kharif sorghum variety CSV-37 has been developed by pedigree method of
breeding from the cross between ICSV-70 x ICSV-112-5. The grains are bolder (100 grain weight:
3.3-3.5g) with moderate tolerance to grain mold a major problem in Kharif sorghum.
