Background:
Kharif sorghum is cultivated in Northern Karnataka, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra
Pradesh and Gujarat. Many high yielding varieties and hybrids are being grown in kharif season.
Most of the varieties are late maturing and poor in fodder yield and quality. Medium maturing
dual-purpose varieties with better grain and fodder yield and quality is need for kharif season
with tolerance to grain mold to achieve sustainable sorghum production.:
Technology Details:
The medium maturing kharif sorghum variety CSV-42 has been developed by pedigree method
of breeding from the cross between DSV-2 x SVD-9607. This variety is dual purpose with higher
grain and fodder yield and quality with moderate tolerance to grain mold.
