Cauliflower variety: Pusa Ashwini (early group)
Background:
In cauliflower, few varieties had been developed which are suitable for early season cultivation
but their productivity is very low (10-12 t/ha). Further, they form small size loose and cream
colour curds which fetches low market price. Pusa Meghna is a prominent variety of early
cauliflower but it mature in September end to first week of October and there is gap afterwards
till Pusa Sharad matures in November mid onwards. Hence, October mid maturing varieties with
white, compact and medium size curds were required to benefit early cauliflower growers.
Technology Details:
Pusa Ashwini is a high yielding variety of Early maturity group of Indian cauliflower. The curds are
semi-dome shaped, white and compact with average weight of 600-700 g. Curd appearance is
good and solid, hence, fetches higher market price. It is suitable for sowing during mid June and
transplanting during second half of July under north Indian plain conditions. Its maturity period
is middle of October and marketable yield potential is 18-20 t/ha. It is recently released and
notified by CVRC.
