Cucumber: Pusa Long Green
Background:
The consumer preference for cucumber in North India is long cylindrical type medium thick
indigenous (desi) variety with high yielding ability. Till date there is no long cylindrical type
indigenous (desi) variety of cucumber developed by public sector institutes for North India. Most
of the varieties/ hybrids available in the market lack tender, crispy flesh and flavor.
Technology Details:
Pusa Long green has attractive light green color fruits with mild whitish green stripes (originating
from the blossom end of the fruit) and brownish green blotchy patches present near the stem
end; 15-18 cm long, non-hairy, with soft skin, crispy and tender flesh with average fruit weight
150-160 g. Fruits become ready for first harvesting in 45-50 days and 50-55 days after sowing
during kharif and spring-summer season, respectively.
