Background:
Till date there is no variety of gynoecious parthenocarpic cucumber developed by public sector
institutes except Pusa Parthenocarpic Cucumber-6. The seeds imported by private companies are
available at a very high price (average Rs 6-10 per seed).
Technology Details:
Pusa Parthenocarpic Cucumber-6 is first extra early (40-45 days for first fruit harvest) improved
line of parthenocarpic gynoecious cucumber suitable for cultivation in protected condition for
North Indian plains. Its average fruit yield is 126.0 t/ha (1260 kg/ 100 m2) during winter season
(off-season, November-March) under low cost polyhouse. Its fruits become ready for first
harvesting in 40-45 days after sowing during winter season (off-season, November-March) under
low cost polyhouse. The fruits have desirable marketable attributes and are attractive, uniform,
dark green, glossy, cylindrical, straight, slightly ribbed, non-hairy, non-warty, slightly striped at
blossom end and has tender skin & crispy flesh. Average fruit weight is 105 g. The proposed
variety can be grown commercially and also utilized as parent by the licensee/ indigenous seed
industries. Seeds can be sold to the farmers at much cheaper price. It is recently released and
notified by CVRC
