DDW55 (Karan Manjari)
Background:
The present high yielding variety was developed for restricted irrigation conditions of Central zone with better resistance to prevailing biotic and abiotic stresses. This is the zone which is known for the production of best quality wheat in the country. The durum wheat is used mainly for the production of semolina, pasta, noodles, macaroni and other breakfast cereals. There are only a few options available to the farmers in that area with respect to the biofortified varieties and climate resilience. Therefore, this variety was developed by ICAR-IIWBR, Karnal meet the requirements of the central zone particularly for restricted irrigation conditions which was later recommended by Central Sub-Committee on Crop Standards, Notification and Release of Varieties for Agricultural Crops vide notification number S.O. 1056(E) dated 06th March 2023:
Technology Details:
DDW 55(d) was higher yielding (35.6q/ha) genotype compared to the available check varieties HI8627(d) (34.2q/ha) and DDW47(d) (34.8q/ha) under timely sown restricted irrigation condition under AICRP trials. DDW 55(d) has shown yield superiority over the checks HI8627(+4.1%) and DDW47(+2.3%) in yield. DDW 55 has highest grain zinc content (43.3ppm) as compared to checks (HI8627, DDW47, HI8823) and also has higher grain protein content (11.5 %) and overall pasta acceptability (6.3/10.0).
Variety is released for cultivation under timely sown restricted irrigation conditions of Central Zone. The average yield of DDW55 is 35.6 q/ha with a potential yield of 56.5q/ha. It is resistant to most of the foliar disease of wheat. DDW 55 has highest grain zinc content (43.3ppm), higher grain protein content of 11.5 %, and overall pasta acceptability score of 6.3.
