Background:
Naturally coloured cotton is a rarity with the lint being either brown or green with differing shades within. This coloured-cotton is due to the formation of coloured pigments in the cotton fibre during its growth and development on the seed. A good plant selection out of a hirsutum coloured-cotton population led to the stabilization of DHCC-1801 as a new medium brown coloured-cotton variety. Technology Details:
DHCC-1801 (Dharwad Hirsutum Colour Cotton-1801) is the first identified promising genotype of UAS Dharwad in the hirsutum coloured-cotton group at the National level by the Central Varietal Identification Committee for release. It is highly suited for rainfed situations and the fibre has desirable properties for machine spinning. The medium-brown coloured lint does not require any dyeing and hence the fabric made is environmentally safe. It avoids water pollution and aids in good human health.
