Background:
DRRH-4 (IET 27937) is a semi tall, high yielding, long bold grained hybrid well suited for direct seeded aerobic conditions of rice growing ecologies of Punjab in northern zone (Zone-II), Odisha in eastern zone (Zone III), Tripura in north eastern zone (Zone IV), Chhattisgarh in central zone (Zone V) and Gujarat in western zone (Zone VI). It is moderately resistance to major insect pests and diseases such as leaf blast, neck blast. Moderately resistances to gall midge, rice stem borer and Whorl Maggot. The performance of DRRH-4 was consistently high under direct seeded aerobic conditions. On over all basis, it showed 5.0-5.5t/ha grain yield and showed yield superiority of 15%, 17% and 13% over checks from 2016 to 2020. Therefore, DRRH-4 was promising in the states of Punjab, Odisha, Tripura, Chhattisgarh and Gujarat under aerobic conditions during 2018-2021 coordinated trials. It is also responsive to higher doses of nitrogen. DRRH-4 has good head rice recovery (62.8%), long bold (LB) grain type with intermediate alkali spreading value (4.0%), amylose content (24.6%) and gel consistency (30mm) indicating good cooking quality. The cultivation of DRRH-4 will certainly increase rice yields in aerobic grown areas. It also saves lot of water since it can be grown in aerobic condition and also we can increase area of rice with available water resources.:
