Background:
Sesame is an important indigenous ancient export-oriented oilseed crop cultivated in India. DS-1 is the only white seeded variety cultivated in Karnataka which is an old and low yielding variety. Hence, there was an urgent need to develop high yielding bold white seeded varieties to enhance the productivity of this crop. Technology Details:
DS-5, a high yielding bold white seeded sesame variety released for cultivation in northern dry Agro-Climatic Zone -3 and northern transitional Agro-Climatic Zone 8 of Karnataka. Apart from this, it possesses high oil content of 49 to 52 per cent. Therefore, the farmers can confidently grow this variety both in kharif season under rainfed situation and summer season under irrigated conditions.
