DSb 34 (Soybean variety)
Background:
Soybean rust, a disease of serious concern causing significant yield losses ranging from 30-100 per cent in
Southern parts of India and has become a major constraint for expanding area under soybean in South India. Most
of the released varieties viz., JS 335, JS 93-05 and DSb 1 were highly susceptible to rust. Hence, there was an urgent
need to develop rust resistant variety.:
Technology Details:
DSb 34 (DSb 23 x JS 95-60) is a rust resistant variety with high yield potentiality developed by UAS, Dharwad and
accepted for release / notification by CVRC for Southern zone of India during November 2020. In addition to rust
resistance, it gives higher yield (10-15%) than the popular variety JS 335. It matures in 85-90 days on par with JS
335 and suitable for intercropping systems. Since, it requires no fungicidal spray, it reduces the cost of cultivation
in addition to higher net returns through higher yield. By growing continuously, it prevents further spread of rust.
It is also best suited for organic cultivation. :
