Dh 256 (Groundnut variety)
Background:
Half of the groundnut growing area is in the semi-arid tropics (SAT) and subjected to stresses
caused by drought at different intensities and duration. Intermittent drought, which is an
episodic water deficit during plant growth, is the most prevalent drought type affecting
groundnut production and productivity in the rainfed regions of SAT that is a common situation
in the dry tract of northern Karnataka. There is an urgent need for dual season groundnut variety
to meet the large volume of seeds required for sowing and poor storage facility at farmer’s level.:
Technology Details:
AICRP Groundnut, UAS Dharwad centre has developed Dh 256, a drought and foliar disease
tolerant, dual season (suitable for cultivation both in kharif and rabi /summer seasons)
groundnut variety for cultivation in Karnataka and All India Zone V (Southern Peninsular).
