Dh 257 (Drought tolerant summer groundnut variety)
Background:
Half of the groundnut growing area is in the semi-arid tropics (SAT) and subjected to stresses
caused by drought at different intensities and duration. Intermittent drought, which is an
episodic water deficit during plant growth, is the most prevalent drought type affecting
groundnut production and productivity in the rainfed regions of SAT that is a common situation
in the dry tract of northern Karnataka.:
Technology Details:
AICRP Groundnut, UAS Dharwad centre has developed Dh 257, a drought and foliar disease
tolerant, rabi-summer groundnut variety for cultivation in All India Zone IIIA (Karnataka and
Maharashtra states).
