Background:
The idea was to develop technology for direct seeding of paddy crop as DSR cultivation leads to saving in seed, labour, fertilizer and water compared to transplanting. For DSR existing seed drills are being used which result in non-uniform seed placement in a row, excessive seed dropping, stucking of the ground wheel in sticky soils and ground wheel slip/skid in loose soils. The developed seeder precisely plants long grain basmati paddy seeds in rows. The DC motor metering unit is free from slip and skid of the ground wheel. Inclined plates with cells along with modular hoppers were used for metering of paddy seeds. On average, a saving of 12 %, in seed rate was observed with this technology.
