Background:
Feeds share 60-80% of the input cost in aquaculture. At present there is about 45% deficit of the concentrate feeds to meet the demand of aquaculture and animal husbandry sectors. In India semi-intensive system of aquaculture is practiced and 3-4 kg feeds are used for a kg of carp production. To minimize the feed cost locally available cheap and non-conventional feed ingredients were identified and screened and brought in to formulation of Gram-Ca-Feed carp polyculture.
Technology Details:
Carp grow-out feed ‘Gram-Ca-Feed’ was formulated with locally available ingredient. The dry pelleted feed was tested through on-farm evaluation at the experimental ponds of ICAR-CIFA. Later the feed was evaluated in the farmer’s pond in Odisha and West Bengal. With the use of Gram-Ca-Feed, feed cost was drastically reduced and carps were produced with FCR of 1.47.
