High Starch Cassava Varieties - Sree Athulya and Sree Apoorva

Background:
About 58% of total cassava produced in India is used as raw material for starch/sago industries. At present, the popular cassava varieties cultivated in the industrial area has only moderate level extractable starch content, say about 25%. Two triploid cassava hybrids from ICAR-CTCRI viz. Sree Athulya and Sree Apoorva are high yielding varieties (> 30 t/ha) with high extractable starch content (> 30%) were released in 2013 can help the cassava farmers to increase the marketability of their produce. Variety details:

Sree Athulya:

Maturity: 10 months, Average yield: 39 tonnes/ hectare, High extractable starch: 34.80 %, Suitable for industrial starch and sago manufacturing (Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh) and as cattle feed.

Sree Apoorva:

Maturity: 10 months, Average yield: 37.60 tonnes/ hectare. High extractable starch: 33.30 %, Suitable for industrial starch and sago manufacturing (Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh) and as cattle feed.Both varieties are very much suitable for biofuel (ethanol) production
