IMHB1539

A baby corn hybrid development programme was initiated by ICAR-IIMR to target the Northern Hill Zone. We have developed an early maturing baby corn hybrid suited to this target ecology with in-built tolerance to biotic stresses. This hybrid IMHB1539 out yielded the existing best baby corn check and released and notified in the year 2018 by CVRC. The female line HKI 1105 is very productive and there is good synchrony with male parent for hybrid seed production. However, the synchrony is to be standardized at the site of seed production. Cultivar and growing ecologies of IMHB 1539 for Northern Hill Zone (NHZ) comprising the states J&K, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand (Hill region), Meghalaya, Sikkim, Assam, Tripura, Nagaland, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh. Parentage: HKI 1105 × IML 127-1. Yield is 1.3 de-husked baby corn t/ha. Moderately resistant (MR) to multiple diseases viz., turcicum leaf blight, maydis leaf blight, banded leaf and sheath blight, and charcoal rot and to insect Chilo partellus under artificial epiphytotic conditions at hot-spots locations. Early matured Kharif season variety. This hybrid has shown significant baby corn yield superiority over the best check (HM4) over three years of testing in AICRP trials of NHZ; Responsive to high inputs. Length of baby corn is 10.0-11.0cm and fodder yield of 22.0-24.0 t/ha in the recommended zone.
