Karan Vaidehi ( DBW370)
Background:
The present high yielding variety was developed for irrigated early sown conditions with better resistance to stripe and leaf rust for North Western Plains Zone. This is the most productive zone of the country and wheat is grown in about 12-13 mha area, however farmers have only few varieties for October planting conditions. There was need to develop high yielding variety under early sown conditions for this area for which Karan Vaidehi has been recommended by Central Sub-Committee on Crop Standards, Notification and Release of Varieties for Agricultural Crops vide notification number S.O. 1056(E) dated 06th March 2023:
Technical Details:
DBW 370 (74.9 q/ha) has shown significant yield superiority over all the checks and at par performance with other candidate varieties under two years of testing in the coordinated trials. DBW 370 is a high input responsive genotype and performs better under early sown conditions with higher dose of fertilizers (150 % RDF NPK+ 15 t/ha FYM) and application of growth regulators. DBW370 has best chapatti quality score (8.3), lower phenol content (3.6), high protein content (12.0%), and highest biscuit spread factor (8.2).
