LPCH2 (IMHP1535)
Background:
The central western zone (CWZ) has approximately 26.0 Lakhs hectare area under maize
cultivation. The almost 100 % popcorn consume in India is imported from abroad. Further,
short duration popcorn hybrids with higher popping percentage are in much need as they can
easily fit in diverse cropping systems. Therefore the current technology was developed as
short duration matured in 80-85 days to meet out the domestic demand of popcorn. In, India
there is only one early maturing popcorn single cross hybrid released; therefore development
of high yielding single cross hybrid of popcorn with different genetic background will help in
sustaining yield and diversity in the system. :
Technology Details:
In view of importance of popcorn in India, the early maturing popcorn hybrid LPCH2
developed, released and notified from CVRC for CWZ cultivation can help in fulfilling the
demand of popcorn in the city and mall. This is the early maturing hybrid which can be fit
easily in any of the cropping system. Therefore, by growing this popcorn hybrid, farmers can
increase their income as well as can help in fulfilling the required demands of popcorn in our
country. There is lots of scope to enhance farmers’ income by growing specialty corns like
popcorn. Now a day there is huge demand of popcorn in the city, malls and urban area.
Farmers can take this as an opportunity to increase their income. It is none-perishable, can
be store for longer duration and can sell as and when suitable price is there in the market.
This hybrid was released and notified in the year 2020 by CVRC. The synchrony of male and
female flowering needs to be checked and standardize while seed production at required site.
