Muskmelon variety: Pusa Madhurima
Background:
Most of the commercial varieties of muskmelon developed from Public sector Institutions are
very old and many of them are highly susceptible to Fusarium wilt. These varieties are having
poor shelf life and farmers are forced to sell at throwaway price.
Technology Details:
The growers will be more benefited with this new variety because of its very high yielding ability
and unique shape with moderate resistance to Fusarium wilt and longer shelf life. The yield
potential of Pusa Madhurima is 22.45 t/ha with an advantage of about 19 % over check variety
Pusa Madhuras. Its flesh is thick, green, juicy and crispy with medium musky flavour and high
sweetness (TSS 120brix) which is preferred by Indian consumers. Its shelf life is also better due
to presence of moderate netting on fruit surface and farmers can be benefitted by getting higher
yield and profit.
