Pilot Scale Biochar Production System
Background:
The potential of significant quantity of crop residues is still untapped. Biochar from crop is an effective means to withdraw carbon dioxide (CO2) from the atmosphere. However convenient and effective method of converting crop residues into biochar is not available. Most of the biochar reactor uses electrical energy for conversion and vapour containing greenhouse gases generated left into the atmosphere. Hence an environmentally friendly process and method is required to produce biochar from crop residue.:
Technology Details:
The reactor system for production of bio char from crop residue using briquette as fuel was developed. It consists of reactor drum and combustion chamber. The size of reactor is 1.25m diameter and 2m length. It is mounted inside the combustion chamber for uniform heating. The combustion chamber consists of double bricks made up with refractory bricks. There is provision to rotate the drum at its axis. Blower was fitted to blow the air for combustion. The provision was made to recirculate the vapour into the combustion system as they have fuel gases, like hydrogen, methane and carbon mono oxide
