Process for Isolation and identification of wound healing constituents from a natural source
Background:
Wound is a frequently observed problem of man and animals. Healing of wound is a natural physiological process but its intensity is affected by several factors both infective and non-infective nature. Many a times, contaminated wounds developed suppuration and sepsis. Further due to the emergence of antimicrobial resistance, checking contamination and augmentation of wound healing has become a challenge to medical as well as veterinary doctors:
Medicinal plants are used in medicament for wound healing since times immemorial. However, many of these medicinal plants are not scientifically proved for their wound healing potentials under strict modern scientific experimental conditions and also very little information is available about their active constituents and chemical structures Vis-a Vis activity. The novelty of this innovation is that the plant extract/pure compounds isolated from effective extracts are used orally to augment wound healing.
In the present innovation, we have developed activity guided isolation and identification of secondary plant metabolites from a medicinal plant which is used by rural people for wound healing:
There is extensive potential of this technology for preparation of product for healing of different kinds of wounds in human and animals:
Technology Details:
For the management of wounds in clinics, mostly anti-inflammatory, antibacterial /antifungal agents are used and some adverse effects also like immunosuppression and due to emergence of antimicrobial resistance, many of these topical products provide unsatisfactory results .This innovation will help isolation of wound healing compounds (alone and in combination) from natural sources and these constituents could be used orally which will augment healing wounds of internal organs including tendon/ ligaments as well as body surfaces by augmenting collagen biosynthesis.
