Recombinant antigen-based ELISA for diagnosis of Equine Infectious Anaemia (EIA)
Technology Details:
Equine infectious anemia (EIA), a chronic, debilitating and persistent infectious disease of horses and all other equids is caused by a macrophage tropic lentivirus, equine infectious anemia virus (EIAV). It is a notifiable disease. As there is no specific pathognomic clinical signs in EIA (acute or chronic) or no clinical signs at all (inapparent carrier), accurate diagnosis of EIA depends on laboratory test. At present, Coggin’s test is the standard serological test for EIA diagnosis.:
NRCE has developed recombinant p26 protein based ELISA for EIA diagnosis. The assay was validated at NRCE and external lab and was found comparable to Coggin’s test but less time consuming (3h) and cost-effective. One ELISA plate has the capacity to test 42 samples in duplicate, with a reagents shelf life up to 6-9 months at 4°C.
