Technology Details:
Pusa Basmati 1509 is the short duration Basmati rice variety developed at ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi with a seed to seed maturity of only 120 days an average yield of 25q/ ha. It is characterized by extra-long slender grain (8.19 mm), cooked kernel length of 18-20mm, and pleasant aroma. As PB 1509 is semi-dwarf in stature with non-lodging and non-shattering habit and early maturity and thus overcomes the major weakness of the most popular Basmati rice variety Pusa Basmati 1121.Owing to its early maturity, can help saving upto 4 irrigations (33 % saving of water) compared to Pusa Basmati 1121, thus, economizing the cost of agri-inputs and permitting higher cropping intensity resulting in better economic gains to the farmers. Owing to its semi-dwarf stature resulting into reduced crop residue (almost half of Pusa Basmati 1121 and CSR 30), cultivation of proposed variety will lead to significant reduction pollution due to straw burning. Owing to its semi-dwarf and compact nature, can be provided with high fertility conditions of nitrogen dose of more than 100 Kg N, which will be converted to higher yield that has been recorded up to 6.3 tons/ha on an average in farmers’ field.
