VL Mandua 379: Early Maturing, High Yielding and Blast Resistant Finger Millet Variety

Variety VL Mandua 379 is an early maturing (matures in 103-111 days) finger millet cultivar for cultivation in Uttarakhand, Bihar, Jharkhand, NE states, and Madhya Pradesh. VL 379 (3131 kg/ha) showed an impressive yield superiority of 18.28% over the early duration check VL Mandua 352 (2647 kg/ha). VL Mandua 379 is resistant to neck and finger blast diseases as it recorded less mean score for neck blast (2.2%) and for finger blast (3.2%) as compared to the check variety VL Mandua 352 (neck blast 5.0%, finger blast 4.0%) in the coordinated trial. The calcium content of VL Mandua 379 is 284.15 mg/100g, which is 9.8% higher than that of check VL 352 (258.8 mg/100g). VL Mandua 379 has a non-pigmented node and attains a plant height of 91-101 cm. It has semi-compact ear heads with 7-8 incurved fingers of 7-10 cm in length. This variety has medium bold (2.35/1000 grains) light copper colour grains.
