Background:
Maize (Zea mays L.) is the second most important cereal crop in the world in terms of acreage, however, in terms of overall value, it is one of the most important cereal crops of the world. Maize is the third most grown cereal crop within India after paddy and wheat. India contributes around 2% of the global production with a (26 million MT in 2016-17). In India, hybrid maize is grown in about 65-70 percent acreages and most of it accounts for feed and industrial-grade maize.

Vivek Maize Hybrid 47 is an early maturing hybrid (85-90 days in plains; 90-95 days in mid-hills), Plant height: 200-210 cm, High yielding: 50-55 q/ha, It has long cylindrical cobs with good husk cover and bold grains (average 1000-seed weight is 310 g), Its grain is yellow in colour and semi-flint in texture, It is moderately resistant to turcicum and maydis leaf blight and common rust, and resistant to brown stripe downy mildew and post-flowering stalk rot, Notified in 2014 for cultivation in Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura, Owing to its short duration, the hybrid can fit into various maize-based cropping systems prevalent in the country.
