Problem Description: The present high yielding variety was developed for irrigated timely sown conditions with better resistance to stripe and leaf rust for North Western Plains Zone. This is the most productive zone of the country and wheat is grown in about 12-13 mha area, however farmers are growing only few varieties like HD2967, HD3086, etc. There was need to develop high yielding variety under timely sown conditions for this area for which Karan Narendra has been recommended by Central Sub-Committee on Crop Standards, Notification and Release of Varieties for Agricultural Crops vide notification number S.O. 99(E) dated 06 Jan., 2020 Solution Description: Karan Narendra (DBW222) with average yield of 61.3q/ha and potential yield of 82.1q/ha is significantly superior to all the varieties of the zone.It has high resistance against yellow and brown rust under natural and artificial conditions. It is having high bread loaf volume (648), a good chapatti making score (7.5), better bread quality (8.24) and a biscuit spread factor of 8.45cm. Recommended areas of cultivation include Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan (except Kota and Udaipur divisions), Western UP (except Jhansi division), parts of J&K (Jammu & Kathua districts), HP (Una district & Paonta valley) nd Uttarakhand (Tarai region)
