It is natural, non-toxic composition of lac-based formulation. It has inherent property of being antifungal in nature and doesn’t produce any obnoxious smell during operation of waxing. Waxing of Kinnow with this gives improved appearance, less moisture loss and shrivelling, reduced post-harvest decay and longer shelf-life. Its application produced better results in respect of gloss, spread area and firmness to the fruits. No fungicide addition is required because lac present in the formulation has got inherent property of being antifungal in nature. Unlike commercial formulations, lac-based formulation is operator’s friendly, which means it, doesn’t produce any obnoxious smell during operation of waxing plant. Since it is water-based emulsion hence can be used in pilot plant combining washing and wax treatment in one operation. Lac-based fruit formulation for kinnow is prepared by dissolving lac in solubilizing agent. Other additives used in the formulation are spreading and breathing agents.
